Now shit is largely self contained since LGPE isn't canon, SwSh is entirely self contained and SV didn't give anything substantive even though part of it takes place in fucking Unova, that's frustrating.
They don't follow the timeline so rigidly that it restricts their creative freedom, but they do follow it nonetheless.
