Yeah, they often use previous gen protags as placeholders. Lucas was the BW placeholder in the beta tests

The sad thing is that there's a fully modeled Hilda that never went used

Looks better, I guess it was changed because the 3DS couldn't run it (that said games like Monster Hunter Stories were more visually impressive and ran fine on the 3DS, bad optimization maybe?)

Games like Monster Hunter Stories and Sun and Moon were "extended memory" games (the console boots into a different mode so it could use more memory than for a regular 3DS game.) I don't think extended memory games were a thing back when X and Y were released?
