Same with the male human ones, people often left babies in places where they knew they would find them and to justify this folktales about animals leaving them there. If you think about it, it doesn't make sense that Lapras/Octillery gave birth in 2 days from the coitus.
So if anyone thinks that this confirms that in ancient times people could actually reproduce with pokemon, you'd be greatly mistaken. It'd be the same as claiming that the real life myths and legends actually happened
