>>56641020I personally like gen 4, but I have to admit that the mix of 3D and 2D was somewhat off-putting when I first saw it long ago. The 2D sprites are at a resolution where everything looks clean while the 3D models have lots of sharp angles and there's lots of visible aliasing, partly because of the DS resolution. Gen 5 doubled down on that, and while there's some cool camera angles and scenes, they always looked "rough" to me because I had seen smooth curves on models in Gamecube/Wii games by then. It made the 3D of the handhelds seem amateurish by comparison. It's understandable how the technical limitations caused it, but IMO that's why they should have stuck with all 2D sprites until something like the 3DS.
