Also here's another thing: Lt. Surge from Blue/Red/Green/Yellow is an American. And Unova region at Black/White is inspired by USA. Does that makes Lt.Surge an Unova citizen?

Why is it that Pokemon replace animals, but not things like plankton, bugs, or viruses? Why don't they replace plants? Why don't they replace food? How do they know what things like cats and birds are to call certain Pokemon the cat Pokemon or the bird Pokemon if they don't have reference frames for what those are?

Animals existing alongside Pokemon has always been better than the alternative
