>>56646402Pokemon fans haven't really had a ton of experience with this because Pokemon/Game Freak are super uptight about internal information, but other RPG franchises have been through it before.
Take for instance The Elder Scrolls. In the Elder Scrolls some people think only the things explicitly mentioned in the games is canon. Other people think anything said by Michael Kirkbride, the head writer of Morrowind, is canon. Michael Kirkbride has said a ton of really wacky stuff that expands the universe greatly, but also straight up contradicts stuff that happened in games before and after the ones he wrote. Most of this stuff was kept out of the games by Bethesda, but they can't stop Kirkbride from talking about it, so large swaths of the fanbase (particularly people who only like Morrowind) regard it as being 100% canon.
Unfortunately, that's how this is going to be going forward. The lore stories from the leak are so obviously an interlocking part of the actual canon lore that was just cut that some people will act like they are canon forever. And as other anons have said, they fit perfectly with lots of random borderline-not canon stuff like manga that's been around forever, which just reinforces this.
And honestly, I think if you're being honest about this stuff and not listening to morons or furries bragging about their fetish, most of this stuff is decent lore. The Elder Scrolls guy I mentioned above was way more batshit and out of canon than any of this stuff is to what we already knew about Pokemon.
