They make most of their profits from merch anyways, and releasing this stuff as a "leak" is the perfect low-effort way to generate a ton of plushie sales. The contents of the leak were very disorganized, but the fans will sort it out for them, and cherish it. And it absolutely will generate a ton of plushie sales. Tons of people who otherwise wouldn't give a shit about pokemon are talking about it. So much free publicity, and more publicity than any normal marketing campaign could ever generate.
