I saw this art somewhere as a kid and was obsessed with it. I tried everything to find a "black charizard" but never could. I thought red gyarados was a legendary and that I could possibly find a black charizard somewhere on the map. This lead to my discovery of shiny pokemon using google years later.

Thats the whole point of Gen 2 though and what everyfag on this board is missing, it's to expand on the world of Pokemon, this is before every region had like 7 billion new pokemon in the roster. I think it did a good job at expanding it.

Why does Sugimori write the character 森 (sēn in Mandarin, mori in Japanese) that way? The top 木 is modern but the bottom two 木 are written in seal-script. Shouldn't the second half look more like this?
