just a good, no-nonsense pokemon game in the sense that emerald was a good, no-nonsense pokemon games. it was simple, well designed, well paced, just good replayable fun
not to mention -- it was easily the most charming and soulful game in the series, with the best soundtrack and some of the best sprites too. it wasn't as visually appealing as RSE or BW, but it wasn't too far behind either. really pleasant game. it's also the only one to capture the feeling that the anime (specifically Indigo League) gave you as a kid. i loved it a lot and have been meaning to replay it
