>>56693705NTA but the point of beta mons to me is to understand the design process. You actually learn a lot from seeing what designed they had in mind, what designs got shelved for literally generations later, what designs they tried working on multiple times before ultimately deciding to scrap, etc.
Like gen III clearly had an entirely different vibe initially; and it makes sense because they specifically wanted to change up the feel of Pokemon after gen II, with gen III being a soft reboot of sort in terms of unifying the brand and designing Pokemon for all forms of media expression in mind and an exponentially expanding demographic. Hell, just looking at the concept arts seemingly done by a horror illustrator, looking at clearly unfinished sketches of sprites being laid down as foundation before they decide to scrap or use, looking at the stylization changing to have a different color pallet and stronger emphasis on outlines, etc. are all amazing finds.
It's fascinating. This is literally the largest media IP in the world, and we get a glimpse into how the secret sauce is made. Pokemon is the pinnacle of mascot design, so there's actually a lot to learn from looking at these prototype mon if you're willing to actually think about the process and not just look at pretty pictures.
