This kind of thing is difficult to reflect in a series where many characters have similar faces/anatomy, this is emphasized more in Japanese where Satoshi compares Kasumi and Seiyo.

The anime has its own continuity, just look at BW's Bianca existing in the same time as BW2's Cheren.

The anime's Annabel never fell into a vortex, although I admit that it would have been interesting as a movie, it's a shame that XY killed the anime movies, and worse Koko killed the animated pokemon movies in general, we only have Detective Pikachu 2 left.
