Whereas with Pokemon, vast majorities of them are just throwaway cartoon animals, or just downright bad. Like, you have stuff like Swellow or Wattrel or Surskit that are literally just dex fillers to say "we have a Pokemon of x animal. If I was a kid growing up in the Pokemon world and somebody gave me an Intelleon or a Quaquaval to be my best friend and adventuring buddy I would literally just release it stay home.
