I think the only interesting part was having 2 alternate gym leaders in SwSh, the fact they planned for all 16 types shows they could have very much made each version have their own completely different set of gyms
But then when you actually play through the game it becomes so much clear that they designed one gym layout to fit both character motifs in a way that feels odd with either one:
