>>56706012The non shitpost answer is that they didn't bother to properly convert Hoenn into 3D, so they just copied the tiles, making the game look blocky in full 3D. You don't notice it in X and Y since the game was built from the ground up in 3D. But yeah ORAS's visuals are a good example of why it was a good idea to move on from straight remakes. Felt like they couldn't decide what they wanted to do in ORAS so they tried to please everyone. They wanted to make the region different (changed storyline and lore), but not too different (base story still follows same beats). They wanted to add new features, but not too many to make it feel so different for people playing for nostalgia. The end result imo is something that pleases not many people since it's trying to be so many things. Hoenn deserves a Legends treatment imo. There's a lot of unexplored ideas in base Hoenn that I think they eschewed in ORAS that I'd like to see them delve into.
