Increasing shiny odds has been a thing since Gen II with breeding.
MM got introduced in Gen IV, as did radar chaining.
Gen V increased MM odds and BW2 introduced the shiny charm.
Gen VI was the first to double base odds, but there have been plenty of ways before that.
