>S.O.S MechanicWhen you battle a wild pokemon, 75% of the time, after one turn, they "call for help" This means that they summon another wild pokemon and suddenly it becomes a double battle. I don't hate the idea of this, but the reality is that it happens all the fucking time, and it makes catching pokemon a fucking nightmare. False Swipe? Thunder Wave? Healing Item/Status Condition? Too bad, now you're in a double battle. Fuck you.
>Trials/TotemsGyms have been replaced with Trials. Trials are where you do a menial, time-wasting task for a "Trial Caption" (a gym leader but shitty) before facing an extremely overpowered giant pokemon called "Totem Pokemon." I mention that they are OP, because it means that you cannot just work with Type advantages here. It basically requires you to overlevel your Pokemon by grinding before almost every Trial, or by using a lame strategy like Protect and Toxic. These Totem Pokemon also call for help during the battle. The worst example is probably the Third Trial (I think) which is a giant Araquanid. Araquanid has insane special defense, and then it's stats are boosted on top of that. Just bring an electric type Pokemon? Nope. It's so bulky that it barely even makes a dent. This is annoying as fuck, but I'm an adult. I can work around. I don't know if a child can. It's just a terrible fucking design choice, and it's not fun at all. Have you ever where the idea for dumb fucking chores before a gym leader came from, like in Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet? They came from this game.
>CutscenesObligatory, but yeah. For reference, Pokemon X and Y are roughly 1.2 gb downloads. These games are just under 3gb. All of this extra space is used for cutscene. There is far less actual game here than X and Y, and like I mention before, the entire game is copy and paste brown routes and gray cities. This game is legitimately 70% cutscenes. If you spend 40 hours playing this game, 15 of them are actual gameplay.
