If I was to pick a american state for a region much like they did with Unova and Alola it would definitly be Texas or Alaska but I doubt they will come back there.

Puerto Rico. Taino mythology Pokemon would be cool (and a chance to make some non-cute fairy types) and there's some cool set pieces like Yunque and Bioluminescent Bay, but it's too small and third world for them to bother.

A proper fucking new york region. I swear Unova is just what Kanto should've been (geography wise). Aside from the bridges , and European brick apartments replacing typical Japanese architecture, it's practically just modern Japan.
