For me, its strong spawns and xp candy.
Its definitely convenient but getting a Dragonite in SwSh has all the satisfaction of a clean shit compared to getting one in FRLG or HGSS.

in gen 2 you could breed any non-legendary pokémon with a ditto who has a 1/128 chance of appearing and get any shiny at 1/64 odds

Well that's probably because trainers in the newer games get 8 Pokemon, one of which is a legendary and the other is that same legendary but also the only alpha legendary in the game.
