No. Even early Pokemon Journeys showed that a slice of life is possible within the anime. They could've pushed Pokemon Journeys to the direction of Doraemon/Sazae San because of the world tour format.

Honestly, they should have doubled down on the SOL elements a long time ago. The shounenslop formula doesn't work well with moncolle because there's no logic to the power system and all the fights inevitably come down to bullshit.

Unlike the anime shows whose name you look up on wikipedia, Journeys's Mc had a clear goal with mesurable progress.

Just make a spinoff SOL every now and then. The main anime series should be a normal shonen anime. Poketoons was good and I heard good things about that Pokemon Concierge thing that looked like it was targeted at adults who play Animal Crossing New Horizons.
