Crobat itself is pretty uncommon though, only some leaders like Cyrus have it and since they’re leaders it makes sense that they would be able to manipulate and gaslight their team into liking what they’re doing. If anything that explains why regular grunts only have Golbats.

The last time I can recall a villain character actually having story and gameplay tie together was Ghetsis in BW2, where his Hydreigon is at 0 friendship and knows Frustration. The last time any form of antagonist did this that I can recall was Gladion, where Type: Null eventually breaks its helmet and becomes Silvally - which he even named himself - to show that he'd managed to free it from its helmet.

Pokemon happiness is independent of intentions of good or evil. Silver can't evolve Golbat until post game because he refuses to bond with his Pokemon. Ghetsis is straight up the most evil character in the series and treats people and Pokemon worse than trash. Archie and Maxie can bond with their Pokemon because despite being radical eco terrorists because they're not totally gone and have some ability to be rational as evidence by their ability to recognize awakening the legendaries as a bad idea after the fact. Cyrus is just an autist
