The main difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2 rumours as I see it, were fake screen shots trying to prove the latter.
It started having copycats like Light Ho-Oh, or hell even lesser known Bad Houndoom and Fire Pineco, I’m still trying to find screen shots with the former two.
That Britbong dude who designed Shadow Lugia probably grew up on that kek.
From later gens, based on
pokesho.com fake screen shots, we also had rumours such as Pokémon Thunder Yellow circulating around. Or a GBA remake of G/S based on their fake poster with that.
