If it had to be a thing it should have been a Paldea exclusive style. Maybe it really caught on because of Iono? That entire idea went out the door when the dlc characters appeared. Only one of the elite 4 in the blueberry academy don't have multicolored hair. It's a lazy way to make a character stand out more and it ruined the little world building Paldea had.
