How do you guys nickname your Pokemon?

I've been trying to nickname my Pokemon more often, lately, but I find myself staring at the screen trying to think of something that isn't too simple like "Sparky" or "Greeney" or whatever. How do you guys come up with nicknames?

Usually a theme. Like titles of nobility or making them all start with the same letter and are descriptive or so on and so forth.

I just do. Sometimes they work out great, sometimes it's just a random person name on a mon. Some I'll get attached to and use it for several of the same species across different games, others will be one-hit wonders.
For example, my female Ampharos are Cindy. Why? Because I used it once and liked it. I use Altair for male Staraptor, but Stella for female, because both names are related to star.
Croconator became my shiny Totodile/Feraligatr nickname and for dragons I'll search some dragon-related names and see what fits best.
...And then there's Rick the Venusaur.

However i feel like in the moment, funnily enough that basically tend to result in slight theme naming for some. Like my SV dogs here? Warcraft references. Several of my old legendaries? Legendary Weapons, A couple of old Gen III mons? Gundam inspired. For a lot of my shinies i usually do some wordplay on their new primary color and plenty of them just have different "normal" names. The key is honestly not overthinking it and just go with what you think sounds fitting.

the only way i can get out of my own head and relax into the adventure is if i name the player character the canon and name and not nickname anything.

it’s a leftover habit when my mom and dad kept a book of over a thousand names, with their meaning and origin, and I’d use it when naming my Pokemon in Silver and Emerald.

I just go with the flow on nicknames. Like for example, I catch myself a Durant. I name it something like 'Bullet' because bullets tend to be made from metal and there's a sub-species of ant called bullet ants. Stuff like that.
