Ash's Pikachu tying with a Latios just to lose to starter Snivy (not even an experienced one which would be more understandable since Ash uses NFEs all the time) in the next region did massive damage to the anime

They had to baby Ash too much to let him win but what I don't understand is why make Leon's Cinderace Libero in the first place and make it a point of it countering Pikachu because of it just to let Cinderace lose the fight later to Pikachu using an Electric move. They could've just had it as Blaze to begin with. The writing in the anime is just so sloppy.

This is pretty much canon, in SWSH Leon wanted to finally be beaten so he could open himself up to new experiences again, so his anime counterpart no doubt wants to finally end his undefeated streak and reclaim that WAKU WAKU magic that he used to have and saw plenty of in Ash.

So even though he was probably giving it his best against Ash, you can still sense that he wanted to lose. I mean he could easily have just kept Cinderace as his last line of defense and Dynamaxed Charizard again and won easily, but he chose to max Cinderace instead which was clearly a misplay

Why not give him a little brother tagalong character he can teach what he knows to if you really need the toddlers in the audience to have a shit eating retard to relate to and answer beginner questions? He always has a fuckton of tagalongs anyways. He taught Molly and Tory from the Entei and Deoxys movies and was genuinely good at it. Why does the experienced party leader whose been through a gorillion regions have to play the retard role when he by design has tagalongs specifically to relate to different audience demographics?

If I remember correctly, it had actually spontaneously learned Sleep Talk several episodes prior in one of the earlier League matches. It's in the same episode where they revealed at the end that there was a Trainer with a Darkrai, so even though Ash didn't intentionally teach it Sleep Talk with the goal of facing Darkrai, it's obvious that Heracross was being set up by the writers to be a counter to it.

I mean if you don't go overboard like Brandon and his Regis or the short time Giovanni hung out with Mewtwo I think it's alright. But Brandon is a Frontier Brain using a trio of lesser legendaries with non-uber stats and lore. He's not bringing an uber to cheese a tournament.

Type matchups only serve to add a layer of strategy to the turn-based RPG that is the games. The anime doesn't need it.

Pokegame sales certainly haven't suffered without it in the show.

Classic/casual viewers dropped the anime after Johto because Misty left and it was the end of Pokemania. Only hard fans remained watching Hoenn and Sinnoh just because Brock was still there until finally they dropped the anime at Unova. Don't know who'd stomach watching the anime after Sinnoh really, and Sinnoh was already pretty ass by the end.

Not at all. There's a plethora of "battle shounen" shows that are extremely popular and spend a lot of time explaining and following the rules of whatever the format is. Some examples: Haikyuu!! regularly follows real volleyball rules, Hunter X Hunter spends tons of time explaining battle tactics and magical Nen ability mechanics, Shokugeki no Soma (Food Wars) spends tons of time explaining how cooking techniques work that are more-or-less true to real life. Pokemon anime can absolutely do the same thing, and sometimes does to great effect. There were tons of episodes over the years in the Ashnime that revolved around type matchups and abilities.

The only reason Pokemon doesn't bother with writing battles that follow the game mechanics is laziness. It takes more effort to come up with scripts for episodes and battles that tell a story AND follow/explain any relevant mechanics in an interesting way, and it requires the writers to either understand the games or consult with someone that does. Why bother when just sometimes throwing a reference to "electric beats water" and having trainers yell "dodge it" allows you to tell essentially the same story? Fans of the games will find it less satisfactory, but the show isn't trying to appeal to them. The point of the anime is to attract children that DON'T play the games to the brand and product. Kids that play the games are already interested in buying Pokmeon T-shirts and toys. They want the other kids' money too. Could they appeal to both? Absolutely. They just don't bother.
