>>56809393I thought we were talking about convergent pokemon itt? Not paradox. those were implemented as a part of the wider story of Scarlet and Violet, as a continuation of Ultra Beasts. Something that 'feels like pokemon' while still seeming foreign. They didn't want to just lazily make more Ultra Beasts, after all: Gamefreak doesn't like to carry ideas over from past games, because it would make the series stale. Battle Facilities, Seasons, Megas, Z-Moves. It would pile up and be a nuisance for the competitive scene and be far too complicated for the children who are just picking up their first pokemon games with these entries.
The goal is different but equal. So you have Paradox forms that are completely different from the pokemon they are based on, allowing fans of the originals to have two new favorites, or subtle changes to allow for the paradox to gain favorite status among those that may have not liked the overly simple design of Tyranitar, or Hydreigon from the earlier eras of pokemon.
