>>56843983 and even then, it was not perfect but closer to what they should be going for with 3D. The issue OP is going at is that GameFreak have been and are still shit with 3D : their games would be better and go beyond expectations if they didn't waste ressources and time on making a game in a dimension they still don't fucking know how to handle. Imagine all the content, all the possibilities. No more dexit for sure either. It wouldn't be the Pokémon game of our dreams but it would be way fucking better because now they actually have time to polish their shit and make it good enough.
Some really high selling games were 2D ones, it's insane how this idea from big video game companies that 2D is seen as a downgrade is around kicking and strong when it's just wrong. Sonic Mania, even with half the game being basically a remaster, sold amazingly well and was received so well, but Sega didn't even learn from that success because they still live with that stupid idea of 2D meaning a lesser product was made being ingrained even though the game wasn't just popular with older players of the franchise, a lot of the young audiance liked it too. But, unlike some franchises, Sonic or Pokémon are not as good in 3D, Sonic because of the gameplay, Pokémon because GameFreak is ass.
So, anyone would prefer an amazing 2D main Pokémon game than a shitty 3D one, and everything is showing us that GameFreak is not even close from getting good at making 3D games, even with Legends as a decent example because Legends has a good reason to be done in 3D since the core gameplay is amazingly fun (but the rest is shit and for a reason, they are not good at making games, even less 3D ones).
