Watching the Cinnabar Island episode it seems like Blaine is annoyed by the amount of tourists and lack of Pokemon trainers.

The two Pallet Town trainers that gave up their journey and went back home.

Am I to assume that trainers are mostly younger folks who eventually grow up and retire training? Older trainers like Lance, Cynthia, etc are the minority?

How does it work in universe? Do people just live normal lives and buy tickets to see some trainers battle it out at the Elite Four?

Would you be one of the trainers that carries on into adulthood or would you go back to your normal lives?
