I only play vintage. Made my own decks to play with the family. I don't like modern TCG which is why I like Pocket since it plays like vintage. I'm really playing they don't ruin the feel of the game.

Quite a bit. I have a fair amount of time in the game between base set and ADP. I stopped completely when ADP released till it was rotated out but never really got back into it

It is, I was only able to make a couple decks which got stale after a while. As long as you make your own format you can make it as cheap as you want. You can also do the same with modern. My family kept adding modern cards which ruined the balance because they were sore losers.

i just think losing the 2 energy attack is a bigger deal than you might think, having to be passive for an extra turn is a pretty big tempo loss. the chip damage is pretty nice too compared to trying to stall with a 140hp pokemon

It took a while actually. I looked through the old starter decks but they were too expensive. Eventually I just used my spares and after some trial and error found what worked. We have a broken "Do the Wave" deck that gets countered by a "Haymaker" deck, which in turn gets countered by a Grass deck. There is also an electric deck with voltorb energy but it is very inconsistent.

With the low power scaling of the game id probably add in cards from the tcg but nerf them by making them more type specific. Like "switch, but only for water types" or "pluspower for fighting types". I would want to give evolutions a lot off support to indirectly buff them, i'd hate if pocket goes the way of "big basics". Packs would be Ho-oh and Lugia.

The games biggest marketing point was that you get to open two packs a day for free. It was always going to be a waiting simulator specifically designed around that aspect.

I have run Butterfree with melmetal and Venusaur, it kinda steals the spotlight to set up, might be a good idea to run 2 Caterpie with just 1 metapod and Butterfree. I only ran 1 set of 3 when I did it and sometimes Caterpie gets knocked right after he finds the evo, so a backup’d be nice.

I never pulled a ralts from the Mewtwo packs and ended up having to craft 2. Now I'm going deep in the Charizard pack and have 2 Charizard EXs and 2 Moltres Exs and the only charmander I have is from Wonder Pick. Funny how that happens. I think the common card pool makes it harder than you'd expect to get certain commons, then others you'll have 10+ copies in no time.

Yes but there's unknown restrictions to how 2-stars will appear, so it's safe to assume you will only see a god pack of every card in it is 1-star or below (if 4-diamond exs can appear in a god pack, idk honestly)

You have to manually go to the wonder pick section to start the timers on the new wonder picks so they can expire and push out the older wonder picks, that's all I know. That doesn't answer your question but a lot of the wonder pick mechanics are a complete mystery right now. It doesn't even offer you the last pack the person pulled necessarily, it can be totally random

Alright guise it's time to hammer out the details for /vp/'s official banlist. Basically i'm thinking lots of these cards are problematic so lets instead just do a whitelist for which cards ARE allowed. For a start 1 energy attacks are ALL out, we don't need cancerous hyper aggro farfetch'd decks coming out. Possible exceptions:

I haven't dueled in PvP much, but let me see if I'm understanding this right:

Okay, after some review and math, for those who want to participate, we will start off with all EX and all coin flip abilities being banned. I think this is the best way to go about it. So far I haven’t had problems with sleep and paralysis, but going off old VG and TCG meta’s, I think the best bet is to ban these so that the game becomes about switching and playing your mons to the best of their ability, and not a coin toss.

I’ll do some more testing and will post a password later if anons want to join.

I have trouble with Pikachu and it depends who Weezing is with and if they win the toss with Dragonite I'm dead. I have to win the sleep toss. Venusaur is almost a mirror match but they can out-heal me. I can only beat fire decks if I get everything set up and they don't put energy on Moltres.

Ditch the Pokeballs for an extra Sabrina and Giovanni.
You never need to heal 20hp with this deck because your active mon has 150, I have never had it be relevant to have the ability to recover 20hp in a game, but the extra 10 damage from Giovanni or the forced switch from Sabrina have won me games with this deck multiple times.

Not asking for bans but yeah Pika EX and M2 ex being used by almost everyone in an incredibly shallow game is insanely repetitive. Give more variety and support for non-meta decks. Yes, if they wake up from sleep you lose. The advantage is that it's 1 point when you die so you can hopefully set it up twice and get some chip damage. If you go first you also fall behind. You have to play it a lot of times before you learn how to play against each type of deck. You can also get screwed over with poor draws.

Psychic seems scant without Gardevoir so we can leave her in, coin flip ban prevents meowth card draw from tanking into persian. Afaict the simple “no ex, no coin flips” rule is pretty solid to opening up the format to whatever anons want to play. (Also dragonite is banned)

Pretty sure that’s gonna be it. I’ve made like 5 decks of different types for this, I’m just running through and testing them, it’s pretty fun.

a lot of people seem to be new to the tcg and are posting retarded decklists so here is a brief guide to deckbuilding.

-you only need 2 or (less likely) 3 pokemon lines in your deck. any more than that shits up your deck.

-there's only really a few worthwhile trainer cards. every deck should have 2 research (best trainer currently), sabrina, and pokeball. all the 'specific' supports are probably worth using if you're building a deck that that has cards they target. The rest are not always auto-includes.

Giovanni- most likely you'll want this card but actually think about what breakpoints you're hitting with the +10. your charizard deck might not care about 200 -> 210.

X speed- the other "probably should run but not always" card. way better if you have any 1 retreat pokemon (most decks) but it stops really being a tempo win when you still need to pay a big retreat cost.

Potion- the last "pretty good" trainer card. it's basically filler since nothing better exists to replace it in some decks. (as an aside, think about what attack you're trying to survive by playing this card. stop using potion on your 10hp pokemon)

Red card- this card is bad, but it is the sort of card that could become bannably good in the future. right now your opponent won't be ending their turn with a big hand unless they're bricked, in which case you're just helping them. will be the counter to any excessive card draw that releases in the future though. will also become busted if "your opponent discards a card from their hand" type effects are released, since you can set them to 2. (this is why the real tcg version of red card got banned).

Rest of the cards are just garbage:

Hand scope, pokedex- there's just no real way to take advantage of the information these cards provide right now aside from hand scope + red card memes, which is still bad.

Like the other anon said, it has to match. If you play a mon with two electric and two neutral, Ditto needs two electric and two of any color to copy that move. Against most meta decks, it's fine because I usually predict the type (usually psychic), and it's absolutely hilarious when I take down a Mewtwo with its own attack.

I change the type every game, yeah. When I'm random queueing, I'll just think "Hope I fight x deck". Granted, my odds aren't THAT good, because I could always end up fighting anything, but I've had moderate success going mono grass, mono psychic, and mono electric. I know it's a "dude trust me" flex, but I've taken down meta decks with this nonsensical deck. I've beaten two Pikachu Ex decks (literally only two, they wreck me hard every other time), at least five Mewtwo Ex decks (~40% win rate here), and one Charizard deck (I've only fought one, so 100% winrate here). I do get horrible matchups though, like the random fighting type user, but those aren't total stomps; I do put up one hell of a fight with what I have on hand.

I tried using multiple energy types, but that always backfired. Water Elec expecting Articuno or Pikachu, but get Mewtwo. Fire Psychic expecting one of those, but get nothing but the wrong type of energy most of the time. It annoys me too much so I just guess a type, pick it, and queue up. If I get it right, then I hope my opponent gets a good laugh. If I get it wrong, I hope my opponent finds it amusing. If I win, I hope my opponent is baffled but entertained. If I lose, oh well; I had fun bringing an oddball deck.

I tried to make him, but the current roster is just too bad. He should have been able to interact with the whole Golem line instead of just the Stage 2

Lol I was saying on an earlier thread how predicting the right spot for wonder picks was a skill, this game def brings that out quite a bit. (Hence banning coin flips cuz using luck and esp isn’t supposed to be part of the card game lol)

We could also probably have a meta playlist, but it seems like these so few anons playing on vp password that for now we can just limit it to this.

Focus on finishing your Mewtwo first. Sabrinas are such a wonderfully useful card, and since you said you can dust Gardevoir, you can now save up to get a second Sabrina if you somehow fail to get two. Gardevoir is rarer, so definitely grab her and move on to the zard packs.

Because you don't use good going first pokemon. Those shitty-seeming stage 1 pokemon like Clefable with 40 damage attacks do have a purpose. Hypno is another good one for going first, or Weezing. Executor, obviously.
