Funnily enough, you see Red Card in tournament lists because most tournaments are open list.
Meaning your opponent will see you running 1x Red Card and naturally be forced to play around it at all times.

It's a psychological pick that doesn't work in random matches.

I uninstalled after Rika banner due to boredom/lack of time but when I saw the reaction to 5th anni I knew that was the end. Still had good times with the game but the unit release model of 4-5+ new characters per month was so bad because it meant they had no time to really add new content at the pace the players wanted

Most likely already hanging onto his stage 2 for the next turn

Could really save you from an untimely Sabrina/Giovanni/healing.

It's not the most general use card, but it's not a trap either. You just need to pick your spots.

It doesn't "disrupt hands". There's only one search card in the game and it only searches cards you can always immediately play.

What you're imagining is a situation where your opponent's holding 4+ cards in hand, but the whole point is that simply running Red Card in an open list tournament forces your opponent to never pass on 4+ cards because then they know they'll lose to a card they know you're running.

And in that situation, the ideal setup is to run Red Card but never draw it.

Turn 1 will get stronger as stronger items and trainer cards release
It's best to balance indivdual cards for now, like tuning Pikachu from 30 to 25 or increasing his energy to 3

And there's no point in nerfing Pikachu when pack 2's EX lineup will just be better. The only reason they'd do it is to make sure everything you invested in right now is even more worthless.

devs said they'd only ever rebalance a card if the situation was truly dire

they haven't acted on the Misty Articuno meme so I don't think they'll change a card anytime soon with the powerlevel this low.

yeah i agree it isn't balanced. if we were never to add new sets and just buff/nerf genetic apex over time then yeah it would be a more fun game with a nerf/rework. i think the way to balance it isn't to nerf it though. as we get more good supports people will want to play ones that guarantee value, not misty. right now the 1 support/turn isn't a big deal since there are so few good supports to play for it to matter. lowrolling misty right now barely matters, but it will matter when it means your opponent is way ahead of you because they got a lot of value from their turn's support and you didn't. basically i think they just need more strong supports and that will fix it.

Speaking all this nerf business.

1. Are all cards going to stay in rotation or do you think they will add different lobbies for the current format and then a wanderer/legacy/all cards legal format too?
2. Does the paper TCG have set rotation?

It would be nice if they let us make lobbies/tournament matchmakings instead of just private battle.
You could choose which sets you wanted to allow, select how many open slots you wanted , maybe even theoretically let you make custom ban lists, and then after everyone joined (with deck validation) it would randomly seed everyone and lock your deck in until the tournament was over, with potentially the ability to leave to open packs and stuff and come back when your next round is ready.
They could also add a more social aspect to the game where you can see players hosting random tournaments and just joining them in a "first come first serve" type of deal.

But like hell they will ever add anything that complex and user friendly.

I've been depressed for the past 30 years unironically.
Things are easier if you make a to-do list on a notes app on your phone, on sticky note in your pc, and work yourself up to a task board in person.
Turn off your alarm, see your task list on your phone, tick it off as you get out of bed and into the shower, prepare a meal, do some stretches, go to work, head to the gym, return back home and clean, so on and so forth. Every action has to be on the list. Strike them through as you continue.
Just take it all one step at a time. It never gets any better, so it takes every ounce of existence you have to not let it get any worse. It's definitely possible. It's just hell.

Rotating cards out of availability is always a bad move. Duel Links almost did it at the start and then decided against it, leaving every standard box permanently available, which makes the crafting/pity system actually gain some merit beyond trading for missing low rarity cards.

you can see for yourself by looking at the little info tooltip in the pack points shop, it says your points will become unusable when they stop distributing the pack. whether that means they'll cycle it out right away like a gacha banner or leave it in rotation for 2 years like the normal tcg is anyone's guess. i hope it's the latter but i and everyone else are just pulling this out of our asses. paper TCG does 2 year rotations but this is a standalone game so there's not really a precedent for anything.

Without Blaine, Rapidash is a worse Exeggutor and Ninetales is a worse Starmie.
The only advantage is Ninetales being able to one-shot Pikachu (or Rapidash two-shotting) with Blaine.
And Stage 1 Pokemon with one-energy attacks are decent for when you're going first - but resolving Misty just mogs that.

A card being EX or not matters very little when the EX option is more than twice as good as the non-EX option.

I think if they honestly want to address game balance they need to fix the inherent PVP mechanics before touching the cards. Nerfing Misty to 1 for instance is only going to open the door to future energy dump cards being abused instead and create a bad precedent of nerfing all of them instead of trying to fix why they're all going to be good ahead of time.

the issue in my opinion is they saw energy acceleration working out well for the paper tcg, but in a format where you only need 2 kos (on ex's) to end the game it's just such a dangerous avenue to take the game down. i really think the game shouldn't have had ex's at all in a 3 point format, but they knew that they would generate more excitement than just plain jane mewtwo or pikachu cards. 4 point single prize format would have been perfect.

Again, EXs have too much health for that. The only thing you can reasonably nuke is Pikachu, and that's assuming you're going second with Ninetales and also have a Blaine in hand. Meanwhile that same Pikachu can one-shot both your Pokemon for the same energy cost without needing a supporter (for Ninetales) or an evolution.

the biggest is to only open 1 pack and stick with it till you get what you want. the 3 are different so look over them and see which one has cards you're fine being stuck with, because the other 2 will take a lot longer. if you jump around you won't have enough of anything for a deck (most likely).

They probably decided on 3 points as some kind of ADHD-friendly attempt to make the game more compatible with it being mobile/on the go battling, but what they should've done is allow for battle variation and customization. I know people want Ranked, but I'd rather not have a ladder. I'd rather they make different formats like a 3 point one, a 4 point one, a 5 point one, one without EX allowed, and then have a rotating set of custom rules to keep things fresh. That's what Pokemon Showdown does where there's a lot of love for not just OU but randbats, AG, and tons more. I think it'd be in their interest to create an abundance of formats, and then record analytics to see where people naturally flock to the most in order to determine what people like the most to go from there. As things are now, I can already predict that producing a solution for battling pains is probably going to lead to more groaning because they'll have overlooked X, Y, and Z.

it's not additive. It's not 59 times you miss and then number 60 you've filled up your luck meter and get it.

It's 1/60 chance, 60 times.

1-(1-(1/60))^60 for it to show up at least once in those 60 attempts. Which adds up to a cumulative 63% chance to have pulled at least 1.

They give a point if they're KO'd by your opponent, not if you discard them yourself. Putting a fossil on your bench is to protect a mon your trying to set up. Charizard Moltres for example basically loses the game to a well time Sabrina KOing Charmander so it's better to give them a free point by sending in a fossil than it is to lose your main wincon. Or if Moltres gets KO'd you can send the fossil in to see what your next draw is and then discard it.

Expectations and probabilities aren't the same thing. If you have a 50% chance of getting a card when you pull a pack, you expect to get one every two packs, but the chance of that actually happening is only 75%. you dont have infinite pulls of packs as an individual, but you dont do 60/180 and are done with it either

you will have many many pulls, and while sometimes you will get closer that 180 like you said, many times you will get that 60 or even the 1

and overall your average will get closer to that statistical mean of 1/60 for specific 4 diamonds

I had the same thoughts on the game a while back but ultimately you have to just reframe your thinking. I come from competitive pokemon where any substantial enough hax is usually Really Fucking Gay and a huge setback, but here it's just part of the game. It definitely feels unsatisfying to just deckroll a guy from turn 1 with everything you need set up, but if it were for a ranked match or tournament with prizes, you'd take it, especially because it will go against you at some point as well. If your opp starts off well when you brick and you stay in the game for a while (even if you continue to get bad luck) then it means you outplayed him. You'll have that odd game here and there when you play your way out of a hole and the shit you need actually appears 4th or 5th from the bottom instead of being the very last card(s), and it's the best feeling in the world

It kind of sucks, but it's all I have right now due to a lack of Exeggutor Ex. As for how to use it, you just give her an energy and pump Bulb/Ivy/Venusaur as fast and hard as possible. Jam that green Lilligant cum into the plant toad's malleable energy hole. You sac the Lilligant so you can get Venusaur going hard and fast.

Does it work? Sometimes. Your opponent pretty much needs to brick.

Oh, I agree with that. The immersive cards are actually the thing that would be impossible outside of a digital game, so I'm glad they're common enough to be attainable by pretty much everyone. I just find it funny that the rarest cards are so bad. Even the regular CG full art cards are rarer than the immersive (individually, at least) and they're not nearly as cool. Hell, most of the one star ones absolutely mog the shitty CG two star and crown rares.

It's a zero-interaction game. No instants, no counters, no trap cards, no negates. It's two guys taking turns playing solitaire and sitting on their hands when it's the other player's move. You literally can't do a single thing on an opponent's turn except for that one Gen 4 card that never got reprinted.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's absolutely different from MTG or Yugioh where 99% of the gameplay is stopping your opponent from having fun on their own turn.

If you enjoy it, you could also check out the Bandai TCGs (One Piece, Digimon, DBZ), or Vanguard. They're also in the same vein.

I enjoy it as a game on my phone that I open up and can either play or let the computer play. I don't think I'd pick up the card game. I don't even really play Magic that much nowadays, but its ingrained in my DNA at this point so all card games will always be compared to Magic for me. Shout outs to Netrunner though, that one was cool.

From my experience with online tcgs, you'll end up having to focus on only one(and maybe two) decks per expansion as a f2p. For niche decks, you're gonna be better off making alt accounts instead of spreading your resources wide.
I played Shadowverse and Master Duel before, but I don't think TPC will be as generous.

Bros, I need help. I keep using this deck and it's surprisingly good but I never run into meta decks to test it out. It likely dies to pika but I wonder how it does against other decks. I think your energy costs are way too high for what you're trying to do. 2 energy, 2 energy, 3 energy. It's too much. I'd swap out something for a Seaking if you have it. Probably Frosmoth, it just feels like a bad Dugtrio to me. Regular Starmie, Farfetch'd, Mienshao, or Dodrio are also okay picks. Just something with a low energy cost and preferably a lot of HP, which is why I suggest Seaking.

Water decks kind of struggle because all the good cards are in different packs, so you can't even make a good budget deck because e.g. Tentacruel, Seaking, and Starmie are all in different places. It's really annoying.

Arbok/Weezing a solid rogue that also has the benefit of being ◊◊◊ rarity or lower. Which makes it cheap to build and good for the low rarity solo missions. Weezing is also in the same packs as Mewtwo, so going for Mewtwo also builds Arbok/Weezing. Mewtwo packs also hive you Dragonite, another low rarity but high power deck and Venusaur EX, which is tier 2. Oh, and Marowak. Which is the best budget deck. Conversely, the pika packs pretty much only give you Pikachu. If you want quality, Pikachu is largely believed to be the best deck. On the other hand Mewtwo offers a wide range of decks of varying tiers as well as Mewtwo EX himself which is the second best deck right now. It's also worth mentioning that Gardevoir is a top tier support mon that will for sure see play for a long time even if Mewtwo gets power crept. Charizard has, well, Charizard. Strong deck for sure. It also has the pieces for other decks in it. And it has Blaine aggro, another strong budget deck. If you want a meta water deck it's pieces are spread evenly between all three packs so you better get ready to whale for it if you want it.

Get energies on her, use her to ramp up Venu, Erika if you need the extra sustain, sac/retreat when Venu is stacked, ball out. It's not incredible, but it's something much more important: fun.

PikaDos is problematic to build, if you don't get a Pika and a Zapdos you'll have to contend with 100 garbage cards. At least in the Mewtwo pack the consolation prizes are still decent to cope with.
