Blastoise is probably #1, kinda mediocre later on, but bullies the first half of the game then is alright. Venusaur is in the top 10. Charizard... might be.

Who else is on this list of 4 pokemon in the top 10? Flareon is available early "enough" that it isn't going to fall behind, comes online exactly when being a fire type starts being good, and has really high special defense, which is good for a lot of that remaining time. It roasts Erika and Koga, Shadow Balls Sabrina, is a good defensive check to Blaine, has to sit Giovanni out, then does okay against some of Lorelei, eh into Bruno, fucks Agatha, does okay into Lance, and does pretty good into Blue, smashing his grass type and Alakazam, probably just beats Arcanine and is still defensively solid against Charizard. It does really well into random trainers with its high offensive stats, and fire is generally good into shitmons.
Like, what in FRLG is actually better than it? Hypno, maybe, does a lot of the same stuff but being psychic is privileged in Kanto.
Vaporeon is mid as fuck, fish up whatever you want. Jolteon is good, but is kinda overtuned for speed for single player, and electric is only okay for lategame Kanto. Lapras is underlevelled and needs a bunch of attention to. Clefable, maybe, but Clefable demands your TMs to work, and so makes a bunch of other shit unviable and suffer for lack of them. Butterfree is solid for early game but struggles later on, I could see it being on the list though. Graveller/Golem is good, but late game Kanto hates it. Mr. Mime is bad Kadabra, so it might still be on the top 4. The legendary birds are all really late, and are frankly kinda mid into the league anyways besides maybe articuno for Lance. Charizard has a horrible time in the early game, coming online almost exactly when Flareon does, doing just about the same, except worse into Sabrina and Agatha.
