pot of greed is free to use, oak uses up your one supporter per turn
other example, mtg uses mana system, so their draw 2 equivalent also isn't free

Yugioh is retardedly explosive, or at least is was when I used to play it (about a decade ago). I’m sure it hasn’t changed much. It’s non uncommon for decks to be able to kill you on their first turn. Deck thinning in Yugioh is extremely powerful.

with new rules in poketcg supporters are only used once per turn now compared to older rules i believe, plus its a 60 card deck in the regular game and you have a resource based game play instead of "look i have this card i can just play it" kinda game.
yugioh has one "normal summon" then infinite "special summons" which means if you can do a special summon then card advantage wins always.
for context special summoning in that game is already broken enough to lock your opponent out turn 1 and win unless they have a hand trap or "flood gate " or aka a stall card.

Because YGO is filled to the brim with consistent card searchers, so giving everyone access to a non-OPT card with no activation conditions would make things way too overcentralizing. That and there are already several other pots that have a similar effect, such as Pot of Extravagance or Desires, but they tend to have a hard-OPT condition and a proper cost (banish 6 random cards from your ED, banish the 10 top cards from your deck).

the TLDR is that pot of greed can be activated multiple times in a single turn (unlike oak), and the lack of a mana/energy system in yugioh means that card advantage is the most important part of the game for longevity/comboing/board breaking. You can also summon multiple monsters who attack/have attack based effects, unlike this game where you can only have one.

Moltres EX and Charmander on first draw almost guarantees winning except maybe against a Pikachu ex deck. You'd have to be really unlucky to keep rolling tails. Setting up six energies for Charizard ex is really not that hard.

Moltres has a much higher chance of getting at least 1 energy, plus you can do it again, and you can tank a lot while setting up.
Misty has a 50% chance of not doing anything at all, wasting the only trainer card you get to use per turn.
You can do insane stuff like winning on turn 1 with Misty, but Moltres and Gardevoir are both better on average and are more consistent.
People keep overrating that card, huh.

I just finished the 20 wins vs. Lapras/Starmie EX.
Do the easy decks guarantee a promo pack?
For the rest of the event I'd like to just auto battle easy mode instead of actually playing against the annoyance that is Starmie+Misty.

Pokémon is an inherently different game than Yugioh. The main reason being that the games mechanics fundamentally limit the number of actions you can take in a turn. You can't evolve right away, you only get one attack a turn and 6 random cards from your deck get at the start of the game. Pokémon has draw 7 as an evergreen mechanic because there's only so much you can do in a turn. Yugioh is a broken (wonderful) mess of a card game that has no limits or resource system except the ones imposed by individual cards. If you can draw your deck in Yugioh, you basically win the game. That doesn't really happen in Pokémon

The issue isn't that Misty is OP, it's that it feels bullshit. These are two functionally different things. Something can be weak but be far more annoying to play against.

Moltres EX has more consistency than Misty, but Moltres EX is also a start of game EX card that can't do damage until it has three energies and it can't accelerate its own energy and has a Retreat cost of 2. When you play it early you're locked into it for two turns minimum and 3 if you want it to do anything itself, all while your opponent has also been building their own resources. All the other energy engines in the game are designed like this where they have a fairly strict pace dictated by evolution or some other paced element.

Misty on the other hand has zero cost beyond your Supporter use for that turn and she may have a 50% chance of doing nothing but it also has a 50% chance of just being instant energy economy advantage for doing nothing, and a chance to just go ham and be INSANE energy econ advantage too.

Misty is not overpowered, but she IS obnoxious.

Because using Oak means you can't use Misty, Sabrina, Erika, or Giovanni this turn. If you're ever in a situation where you really need to use one of those, Oak's Research functionally just wastes hand space for the turn. As more good supporters are added, you might see decks start to cut it.

There's basically no reason not to run Pot of Green in Yugioh.

Brock's fine. It's not much different than playing a Sandslash. Both of them need to pay two energy and find two cards to work. The only actual downside of onyx is the insane retreat cost, because they love giving ridiculous retreat costs to fairly average pokemon while cards like Zapdos and Pikachu get to retreat for 1.

The worst part about Brock is there is absolutely no need for him in a fighting energy deck. You can build succcessful rogue decks with Sandslash, Marowak EX, Machamp EX, and now Primeape paired with the new Mankey, not to mention the cool utility you get from Hitmonlee

It's basically just, Onyx plus Brock gives you a sandslash that doesn't need to evolve, Brock plus Golem gives you a 3-energy OHKO machine that might survive a counterblow. I think they're both good, but they're expensive and the retreat costs are really, REALLY fucked.

Do you think there should be a limit on how many trainer and supporter cards can be in a deck? We have the 18 trainers decks which are an interesting novelty but I'm not sure are an intended outcome of the designers. But really the bigger issue is that on paper it looks like we have a lot of freedom to build decks as we please but in practice we really don't. With the 20 card limit and most decks being packed to the gills with trainer and supporter cards to improve the consistency of the Pokemon engines in the deck, we get somewhat bland homogenous decks, to the point it's exciting when we see a slight change like "Oh this Mewtwo deck won a tournament because he added in a copy of Jynx". Little changes like that can have a big effect, but it still feels slight. I don't know maybe the bigger issue is the 20 card limit is too small. Maybe three prizes means the matches are going by too quickly. Idk what do you guys think? What would improve the gameplay the most?

Interesting ideas but I still foresee some boring deck building in practice. Every deck is going to run two copies of Pokeball and Professors Research, until they are replaced by better versions. We'll still be left with only 16 cards left to play with, and we'll still see so many decks continue to run potions, x speeds. Better supporters will be interesting but I think will just further push the trend of decks with more trainer and supporter cards than Pokémon

Red card sucks. The deck size is too small for it to matter. It falls off significantly in value after your first time. You have to pray they Oak then you can red card them on your first turn. It is more often or not sitting dead in your hand. If a person has 6 cards in hand they’re obviously bricked on something waiting for like a middle evolution.

that's not necessarily a bad thing

due to the 1 per turn limit on supporters there is an actual tempo cost attached to playing oak, e.g. do I sabrina to slow my opponent down or is it more important to fish that evolution out of my deck

I'm not quite sure how I feel about pokeballs, but there's probably ways to make them not as ubiquitous once the game gets more fleshed out

It's actually even worse for 1 diamond and 2 diamond cards. Look up the "balls into bins" problem. When you have 50 cards you can pull at common and you pull, say, 300 of them (100 packs), you'd be astounded how many you'd expect to have pulled 0-1 of.

No. But I agree that zapdos ex is mandatory. The card is another high hp, low retreat cost mon that can be used for positioning, it has a small poke if needed, and it has a potential nuke when pika’s 90 just isn’t enough.

I won a game earlier where I had to play the first turn AND articuno ex got blizzard off (three heads) on the second turn. Wouldn’t have been possible without zapdos ex.

Okay, I've cracked the code on another pokemon. This time it's alakazam, eggy gives you crazy early game pressure and a huge health bar to soak up hits and zam ends the game vs any attacker that can actually 1v1 egg. With erikas it ends up killing one and maiming(or with a little luck killing) another leaving it easy for zam to clean up. Very few decks can answer an alakazam and if eggy has killed their main attacker the secondary will usually fall to zam.

moltres is 1,5 on average and uses up your attack for the turn, guardevoir is passive and reliable

You can sabotage Moltres strategies with Sabrina or just straight knocking it out. Sabrina (and a lucky Red Card) is still a good solution for Gardevoir, but sitting on the bench and requiring no energy to use the ability makes it feel more annoying/powerful.

I've been doing weezing and all kinds of combinations but I got 2 nidoqueen and nidokings before I ever got a weezing and now I want to give back to the Nido community.

I want to try and make a strong Weezing Nido deck but it feels like too many cards if I run;
2x weezing
2x arbok
1x Nidoking.

And nidoqueen feels awful but maybe I can make it work now that inhave kangashkan and tauros

I just use 1 retreat basics like Jynx and I don't play Ralts unless I either have to or have another Ralts or my Jynx on the field
So far the only times I lose Mewtwo matches are either because I'm super bricked or I get Giovanni'd
Seriously, opponents have gotten the Giovanni they needed to win the game on the last turn before I won like 3 times now, it's uncanny

Fossil seems better than Jinx to me, but I'm a pro MTG faggot, not a pro Pokemon TCG faggot. Also Jinx lowers your t1 Mewtwo odds significantly. Against Sabrina you just swap in Fossil and let them get a point. Sometimes they can't even kill it and you just pitch the fossil and plop your fat Mewtwo back in play.

I still haven't opened my own Sabrinas and yet I'm somehow doing very well against real decks. Can't wait for my fucking Sabrinas to come so my deck can actually be correct and not have this red card dogshit card.

In the tournys you see Basics like Meowth/Jynx/Kanga more than fossils, but most commonly I think it's just pure Gard line x2 and Mewtwo x2
I think the issue with fossils is their squishiness, and how passive they are
Mewtwo decks are already so passive that something you can play like X Speed or Sabrina or a mon with a strong attack or draw move is more useful than something that continues to be passive

I stopped using my mewtwos now that I have enough cards to come up with sillier strategies, but yeah Jynx was a great backup card that could either nuke a card thats gotten fully set up after it takes one of my own guys out, or used as a tool to spook the opponent into keeping their active card low on energy so I have time to set my own shit up.

it doesn't work in mewtwo because you don't actually want mewtwo in the active spot from turn 1, you need someone else to fill that role capable of taking a couple of hits while doing some chip damage

Today I lost so many battles because the piece of shit wouldn't stop missing Bonemerangs, battles as easy as the opponent having only one 80HP Pokemon on the field becoming unwinnable because it wouldn't stop missing attacks allowing my opponent to recover and beat me back. Opening with Cubone against opening with Machop feels like night and day, with the former I'm begging for it to hit at least once, with the latter I just need to get to Machamp to murder everything in sight.

I really detest how coinflip-heavy this game is.
