Not at all. Weezing's largest issue is facing against other walls - when they send out a Snorlax or some other meat shield, they just get free turns to set up while poison chips them. Pidgeot solves that weakness and also forces them to constantly waste energies since it's a free Sabrina every turn.

It also forces oneshots or unfavorable matchups alongside Wigglytuff.

This is true, but I'm okay with him getting oneshot, he's a meat shield and usually can do work before they get their oneshotter out. But I'm not okay with them sending their own meatshields to get poisoned instead, or accumulating energies. I'll force them to waste them on retreats.

Most matches he doesn't get oneshot. But it's more common that they'll try playing around him and his low slow damage output by sacking someone they don't need. Pidgeot checks that.

One of the things they consistently do in the paper game is undervalue retreat costs, and it hasn't changed here. Good pokemon almost universally have a low retreat cost, on top of whatever else is making them good to begin with.

Articuno ex I was extremely lucky to get four copies. Venusaur ex is the closest deck I have to being complete, with just one Venusaur ex, one Sabrina and two Erika missing. But apart from the Venusaur, everything is in the Charizard pack, so I think it's more likely that you'll get the missing cards in the Wonder Pick. There's almost nothing there apart from the cards in Misty's deck and Flareon that I want, so I refuse to open it before I've got a good number of the cards in Pikachu.

Without the retreat cost, I think zapdos is arguably a weaker marowak. His biggest contribution to the pika deck is as a mobile meat shield.

Is it just me or are players rather sadistic when its the final winning turn? They take their time evolving or doing someshit like placing more energy until making you wait then killing your final mon. Venusaur dudes do this a lot.

i love playing blaine so much it's unreal. i've gotten plenty of cards by now for other decks, but the way this deck feels so skill expressive(as much as it can be in this shit game lol), rewards game knowledge and calculations instead of just hitting things with your beat stick 'mon, and has so much potential for mind games and outplays is just too addicting.

I'm at 108 wins, countless losses, and I still feel the pressure. PvP makes me nervous and I'm really bad at it, the only reason I'm playing now is because it's very accessible and no stakes. I was super tense at first but after probably 100 battles it became manageable. I think you'll get there like I did but I don't think I'm the kind of person who will ever be able to fully relax and stay cool in competitive.

I don't understand them and I never will, but people like this make up a huge chunk of the online gaming space. I'm always astounded when I go to play Yugioh by how many people will willingly subject themselves to playing a deck with a 10-minute combo on the first turn and no other gameplan.

I think Articuno specifically is where the aggroheads and the controlheads from other games join forces. It appeals to the aggro / combo players because you win or lose pretty much instantly, but it appeals to the control players because if you get a good hand, you get to stay in a game where you're winning for like 10 straight turns and you have an answer for everything the opponent does.

I imagine it's a deck where you spend very little time feeling like an idiot and a ton of time feeling like a genius. And even when you do feel like an idiot it's just because you lost a coin toss.

absolutely. not to mention they can(not saying they will, but i have hope) buff/nerf cards as well, since there's no real-life tcg this game is directly taking from. as a refugee from ptcg i'm hoping that they will actually do something about really strong/weak cards instead of a sableye lost box situation where they keep introducing more shit to powercreep/directly counter the meta. disregarding a couple outliers though the game does feel quite decently balanced. of course that may be because it's so new and way simpler than regular ptcg so they can balance it better but it's still such a wave of fresh air to be able to actually consistently win with single prize deck.

on that note, i was actually wondering what kind of buffs/nerfs some of y'all would are hoping for. as a blaine player i would hope for magmar to get a 10 dmg buff since 50 for 2 energy is very underwhelming for a single stage and so i can hit 90 dmg without relying solely on ninetales. also nerf that stupid bitch ice bird down to 120hp. even disregarding the fact i want to oneshot it with ninetales why is it both so strong AND so tanky?

yeah it feels like they actually put effort into making a bunch of unique and cool archetypes then just shat it up with all these ex mons. mewtwoex and zardex at least feel a little interesting because you have to play around their attack costs but everything else feels pretty boring. i'm hoping they introduce some interesting ex johto 'mons with unique attacks and/or abilities.

I remember there was a period in the real TCG where pick related was so stupidly overpowered that the entire metagame revolved entirely around him. It would have easily been a tier 0 format if not for the fact that he was so generic that there were technically like five distinct decks that all revolved around getting him out in different ways. Their answer was to release Darkrai EX and Dark Patch in the next set, who could casually 2HKO Mewtwo while Mewtwo struggled to do the same to it.

My guess is that the next set will release something like a dark type with 170 HP and a cheap attack that does 130 damage if the opponent used an ability last turn. Then Mewtwo will naturally just fall out of the metagame.

I just keep getting people wasting their X Speed trying to retreat a sleeping Pokemon. A sleeping Pokemon can't retreat, it can be cured by evolving or by using Koga. People also think everything works like Hypno which has to flip to put a Pokemon to sleep. Every other Pokemon out now that puts you to sleep is an attack and it's guaranteed. Once a Pokemon is asleep it gets a chance to wake up during each players turn, it will stay asleep if you keep losing the flip. It gives me an advantage when people don't know how to play around it.

I have a deck with a 2 stage and a 3 stage. The basic from the 2 stage has to be active first, then I need the 2 stage to evolve and the first stage of the 2 stage on the bench, then I have to draw into the second stage, and then third stage. To make all this happen I need to have 2 X Speed, 2 Pokeballs, 2 Oaks, and since it's a grass deck 2 Erikas and 2 Potions. There is no space for anything else on the deck and no space for errors. It's fun and wins but it no meta deck.

In decks with a high pokemon count (12+) you should be playing Meowth as a fifth or sixth draw card. Cut a potion. In decks with a REALLY high pokemon count (16+, like running butterfree, beedrill, and venomoth) you should actually be cutting Pokeballs for Meowth.

Not that anon but I've seen a lot of successful decks with stage 2 Pokemon employ having 2 Meowth to secure the pieces faster. I think that anon's logic is sound, that at a point if you have so many Pokemon in the deck you could sacrifice a Pokeball, you're likely already having no issue drawing basics. A potion can absolutely be sacrificed. Sometimes my lean meta decks that use as few Pokemon as possible put me in bricks situations where I have a handful of trainer cards that won't secure me an advantage at that point in time, when what I really need is another Pokemon. The game is too young to write off deck building theories

The more effective way is to give it 2 lives via Koga while you set up your Arboks, Muk is like a secondary wincon in cases where you need hard bulk or damage. Kogaing out a Weezing into an Arbok is usually an insane combo because Arbok can trap shit. A deck with DoT and trapping obviously loves to use Sabrina as well.

Muk requires poison to be useful. Wiggly doesn't and you can highroll chain sleeps to steal games. Right now the only real upside to Muk is Grimers ability to poison and your ability to scoop Muk with Koga. Essentially, Muk is a worse Weezing and Wiggly is a different flavor of Arbok.

My two best decks have 2 stage 1 lines and a stage 2 line. The game is certainly young and most people don't know what they're doing, but I win most of my matches and I certainly don't have problems putting my pokemon out. Every time I pokeball, I know exactly what I'm getting because I only have two unique basics in the decks. If you want to gamble on 4, 5, or even 6 different basic pokemon to show up after a pokeball, godspeed. I'm going to keep to my consistent and simple deck. I'm sure you get a major dopamine rush when it works, but I'm going to keep farming wins because I can actually strategize about what's about to be in my hand.

Simplicity and consistency are paramount in card games where rng rules the game. Look at any card game's top decks and you'll see a lot of tutoring and card draw. I'm thinking that you're mistaking the fact that your deck is consistent because of your theory crafting when it really has to do with the fact that the decks have 20 card limit, which therefore boosts consistency.

I agree that it feels kinda bad to rely on stage 2 though. Being susceptible to red card also sucks. Stage 2 mons need to bring a lot to the table to warrant their inclusion. I think it's good if you can pair them with a reliable early game threat though. (Greninja with Starmie, Victreebell with Eggs, Gardevoir with Mewtwo)

Pretty good, people underestimate big dick 3 energy unconditional damage with high HP and he can tank Mewtwo's 150 attack even after weakness, the problem comes from Machop and Machoke having high retreat cost with low damaging attacks and average HP so you have to babysit them until you bring Machamp out. If you can get two sets, it would be the most ideal.

I use one set with double Sandslash and one Hitmonlee and I've been doing decently well in the event, definitely beats having to pray for Marowak to hit something.

Ditto deck is all about maneuvering around opponents to copy their shit.
Pidgeot and Aerodactyl are disruptors that make you have to work around their gimmick and either hit them really hard at once or have more than one combat mon ready.
Gengar is all about locking people out of their hand.
Sleep decks are coinflippers that try to stunlock people down with admittedly variable success (I got absolutely raped by one once).

There are several gimmick and meme decks that are really interesting and several of the more structured, serious decks that have fun ways to go about their gameplan. Stop letting Misty and Pikachu live rent free in your head.

I did it for a very specific reason that game (he had no basics and I was hugely behind so if I could deny him some basics for a couple more turns and get him to draw evos/potions/x speeds then it’s a huge coup for me; not to mention I had 2 Blaines in my hand and it’s a fast deck. It’s not bad to play it t1 per se depending on the game state but some people definitely just smack it down thoughtlessly when they’re ahead which is where it gets its reputation.

Welcome to Pokemon TCG, even the OG game is like this. Evolving Pokemon is a stupid feature of the game that's not very well thought out but for whatever reason they decided to leave unchanged here.

It's not by happenstance that the best decks are those that lack three-stage evos and require as little evolving as possible because it's so fucking tedious and takes so many turns; especially when your win-condition probably revolves around that ONE mon who's final stage is sitting as literally the very final card at the bottom of your deck.

Pikachu EX, Articuno EX, that Blaine deck without any EX mons that has been gaining popularity as of late, etc. They all avoid three-stage mons and focus on anyone that can consistently dish out good damage the MOMENT they land onto the active zone, if not 1 turn after they do. The tradeoff is just too large otherwise. It's a shame because the mechanic feels fun but just inherently puts you at a disadvantage. They should have remade the evo mechanic to instead not rely on drawing but turn based countdown or something where you can draw from a separate evo deck or something. Or make it so you can multi-evo on the same move, but that feels a bit too OP.

Poliwrath honestly ain't too bad. Good middle ground between having a decent beatstick out early and brewing up a real a monster in the back at the cost of a few turns. Him not being an EX either means you can risk being a bit more brazen with your bodies than usual too.

My starting hand will always be 1 basic, 2 stage 1 unrelated to it, 3 X speed somehow even if the maximum is 2 per deck the rng will give me another 1 to brick me. Pokeballs, basics and oak will be at the bottom of the deck.

The thing about consistency is that Pokeball ISN'T consistent. The single most important thing in this game is having the right pokemon in your active slot on turn 1. If you're going second you want a pokemon that's good at going second, if you're going first you want one that's good at going first. If you run a low count of basics and bolster it with pokeballs or fossils, you'll rarely get the pokemon you want in your active slot.

Consistency in this game means consistently having TWO pokemon to pick from in your opening hand every game. Ideally, one that's good for going first, and one that's good for going second. The pokemon you find with your turn 1 pokeball can NEVER go into the active slot unless you spend a resource on it - a resource that could have been spent elsewhere.

That's the thought process behind running 8 or more basics in your deck, and subsequently beginning to swap pokeballs for Meowths.

No. I can guarantee you get better pulls if you rotate around to find the pack that's bent/turned backwards. But before you open it, you have to flip every other pack over in counter clockwise rotation starting from that pack (flipping it rightside-up so you can keep track of its place) and then only when you reach the first pack again, do you flip it backwards. Don't just rip the pack open like a barbarian either - you have to be slow and careful with how you open it, and try to make your opening line as straight as possible. The straighter, the better the cards you get. I've opened over 9000 packs by now and can confirm that when following this particular pack opening strategy, I yield the best cards. The times where it didn't work are from me either opening too fast, making too sloppy of a tear when ripping the pack open, or fucking up my pack rotation order.

It's because Skiddo is above-curve for a basic pokemon. Basic pokemon can't usually attack for 1 colourless energy on turn 1, potentially deal 40 damage, survive 60 damage from Pikachu, retreat for 1, AND evolve. Those are all really powerful traits that you shouldn't take for granted when you analyze the card. And on top of that, Gogoat has 120 HP, which is a lot for a stage 1 that deals 70 damage.

I actually think it's a pretty aggressively statted line for a multicolour deck.

Lots of both. The thing that fucked up my pulls was switching to Japanese language, before that I was doing so well. They might front load your account with some rare cards and like the uncommons needed to complete deck boxes, your account will have certain cards that it won’t pull to leave a “chase” for you to follow, which isn’t random. I really hope some coders are looking into the back end of this game because between the dice flips and pulls it’s glaringly obvious that the game is rigged.

Also I only spent that much because I just moved and my new apartment reeks so strongly of cat shit that I’ve puked twice since I’ve been here, and it was my birthday yesterday and I don’t have any friends or spend money on anything that’s non-essential so this game is how I cope.

Just run pikachu ex and the rest just electric types to feed pikachu ex it works. Only if you get pikachu ex first turn. Also maybe run meowth to draw cardo till you get pikachu ex or jigglypuff/wigglytuff ex backup plan.
