Older villain leaders had huge writing flaws but at least they really defined their corrupted worldview with lots of argument and philosophical ideas. Cyrus couldn't understand the concept of soul, N is a brainwhased child raised in idealistic ideals serving a crook monarch obsessed with power, Lysandre was disgusted by humans belligerent desires and wanted to wipe them off the earth. Lusamine's whole motive is she is an angry narcissic mom who wants to be beautiful, she is so fucking bland and boring even years after the game come out I still see discussion if Guzma isn't really the only real villain in this fucking story, also she is fucking redeemed because it's disneymon.

I hate how small the world feel despite having so much potential, the disappointment I felt when I entered Konikoni city and was in awe with the ambiance then realized it's just a 15 meter hallway with 3 houses is immeasurable. In general the world is as boring as there could be, no snow place, barely any lush jungles despite being in hawaii, no interesting caves unlike gen5 and 6, small beaches, one town on water which is small as fuck, the best landmark is a canyon post endgame.
Gen7 took three steps forward, then 3 steps backward and led the franchise exactly the same place gen6 left it. We have 3D, we have cool ideas but we're still outdated in game design by every game on the planet. What a shame. Still LEAGUES beyond what came afterward.
