Has anyone does the math to see if it's even possible to complete the base 226-card set as a f2p player? I've been only cracking the packs I'm missing the most cards from and only wonder picking when I need 2 out of the 5 cards, but now I'm pretty doubtful it's doable without paying. I wish you could "dust" your star cards to get more Pack Points. I just want a full base set and more playsets of playable cards.

I dunno, they're not consistent but there's some funny rng decks to run. using aerodactyl to put EX charizard with 6 energy back in their hand is pretty funny. I ran a double hypno golurk deck and when I ran into another hypno player we almost timed out becuase neither of us could wake up without getting put back to sleep.

If you have two Mewtwo EXs then yeah get Gardevoir. We have no idea how long the Genetic Apex packs will be around for but it's reasonable to believe they will still be in the game well into the future even after a couple of other sets are added

I guess it makes sense? If you want to trade just for your collection, all you have to do is be patient. But if you want meta shit, you need to either pull it yourself or pay up, or else just wait for later, when it will presumably have fallen out of the meta.

I don't think any of the base pokemon outperfom their EX versions but EX starmie is especially cracked. Solid 130hp, free switch out, only two energy and one evo to start doing 90 damage. You can even bump it to 100 with giovanni because you don't need misty to give it energy. EX starmie+EX articuno is a top 5, maybe top 3 deck.

These all seem decent compared to their ex. I know the Ex has more health and damage but the non ex can die twice to give same amount of points. I think a lot of people are underestimating just how much you can pull off with 3 lives to give vs only losing 2.

I've only used articuno as a meat shield because 3 energy for a 60 damage attack is painfully low. Eggxecutor is fine but doesn't work to early sweep nearly as hard as EX. Normal arcanine is kind of not worth it because it takes the same self damage without the added hp for survivability and lower damage. Zapdos is also kind of expensive for something that damages your back line, not nearly as good as EX. Machamp is okay ish. I'll give you normal blastoise since double misty can still ensure you hit hard regardless. Raichu needs a lot of setup since you lose 3 energy on every attack, while ex pikachu get going turn 2 for almost as much damage per attack and not needing to waste 6 cards to keep refilling him. You can absolutely run a deck with the normal versions but they're generally just less efficient at doing what the EX versions do.

Most of the alternate forms don't compare favorably, because they're just the same pokemon but weaker. You would never want to invest 3 energy and 3 cards into a regular Machamp, even if it costs 1 fewer prize. What are you building up behind it that would have been strong enough to make up for it? The other issue is that ex pokemon don't have 2 lives, they have 4 lives. They're designed to be about twice as strong as a regular pokemon, so killing 2 of them is like killing 4 regular ones.

Just save for stuff that has the most value. I target pulls containing multiple rare cards that I need / want in order to maximize the chance of success for the same cost. Pick the same card position every time (assuming it isn’t a lie), and the game will pay out eventually. Go into it expecting failure. Enjoy the successes you have.

I just started the game and did 15 or so pulls on the pikachu banner and I got a water/grass/fire/electric/fighter functional decks.
I won against a japanese guy on the competitive thingy, he had a shining articuno and I used a fish that does 10 damage then scales to +50 damage to a damaged enemy and made him consneed.

Though given how basic and quick the game plays right now in it's simplified state that could easily change. Basic ex decks like mew or pika are unironically easier to build and more consistent than decks that need multiple stage ones or 2 together, so that's why they dominate
If you want to play off meta and win you need to make sure the consistency and strength you're lacking is made up in synergy and deck building, and most people that complain about exs and want to be cool and offmeta don't have the deck building chops or the collection to be able to do that well

I've found running a no-EX pokemon deck way stronger, as you don't have this big glaring weakness in your team. I haven't tried wheezing or melmetal yet, but my boy machamp ft. Primape has gotten me a positive win rate against Pikachu and surprisingly Mewtwo.

The only thing you can use the dupes in excess of 2 for is sparklies on the card, but I would hold out on that. There is in game trading happening in January. They're gonna enable the cards for trade in waves, but I'm just gonna hold of on any flairs in favor of using them for trade fodder.

Mostly correct, except for 'Rare Packs' if you scroll down on the offering rates you will see the card probabilities for these packs (which make up 0.05 percent of packs opened, so 1 in 2000 packs opened can be a 'Rare Pack').
Rare Pack odds are:

So what's the point of Red Card? I understand that hand disruption (when they have it) is good, and I understand that theoretically Red Card is a good button to press if they have more than 3 cards.

...but in reality, if they have more than 3 cards in their hand, it's probably all duds. I say this, because it happens to me so often. I think every single time that I've been Red Carded, I have drawn into a better 3 cards than the 5 cards I initially had. The times where the Red Card was actually a good play by them (i.e. I had the nuts), I have invariably drawn back into the nuts with the 3 cards.

Like, Red Card should be good, it should be, but it isn't. The only way to play a good Red Card is to Scope it first, but if you're playing both Scope and Red Card, then you're a retard, and you have to hope that they don't immediately draw back into Gardevoir or whatever. Seems totally and completely useless. Should be good, but isn't. In a 15 card deck, the odds of drawing back into what you need with 3 cards is just way too good, and that's if you have the read in the first place.

It's extremely situational. Debatably it's the strongest card in the game because it's the only card that can defeat luck of the draw. Practically, it's the worst card in the game and any time it wins you the game you just got lucky.

if they keep pulling cards they aren't playing, they might be sitting on secondary and tertiarty evolution cards they need for their win con that they can't play without the first card. it's absolutely worth pulling a redcard to make your opponent have to deck search for their gardevoir/charizard/support card/whatever. If you think you know what kind of deck they're running and suspect they're sitting on those later evo/support cards, redcard lets you fuck up their hand. Right now I'm only using it in one of my decks because I have a free slot, but I don't think it's bad without scope.

So it's disruptive to bad decks? Why run the card then? Mewtwo and Pikachu are good because they're basics. Mewtwo only has 1 evo line, which I have redrawn into every single time I've been Red Carded. The longer the game goes on, the worse Red Card gets, because the deck size gets smaller. Like, I just have no fucking idea what the point of the card is. In a 60 card deck it might be worth, but 20 cards, you need the Scope also and even if you're running both (which is a bad idea), you also need luck to be on your side and against your opponent.

If they have a fat hand they might have 2 pieces of a 3 stage evo, especially after popping Oak. If I’m bricked too I might slap it down to prevent a basic and slow their deck, or I’ll slap it down after the stage 1 appears. I usually get the most use of it in endgame (as do some opponents) when most mons are out and your plan relies on the opponent not having X supporter, but obviously you have to make the read here

Mathematically, yes, but in practice, no. If you have 5 cards in your hand, you're probably sitting on duds. A 5 card hand is probably like 2 potions you can't use, an X Speed you have no reason to use because you're winning, an evolution that you don't have the base of, and maybe your own Red Card. In this game, if you have cards, there's really no reason to slow play them. Like, best case scenario, you turn 1 or turn 2 Red Card, and hope that they don't redraw into what they need, but at that point you're dealing with a deck that is smaller than 15, they have 2 copies of the card they need in their deck, so it's like 3/7 shot they redraw what they need anyway.

Bluffing a Red Card, in my opinion, is retarded simply because I know that I also play this game, and if I have a big hand, it's all shit. If I have a big hand, I'd fucking Red Card myself 90% of the time. There's just no reason to slow play anything besides maybe Giovanni, so bluffing is stupid, and I just let my opponent's hand size get to ludicrous numbers, watching as they do fucking nothing, wondering why the fuck I'm playing Red Card in my deck.

You're retarded, lil bro. The longer you play the game, the smaller your deck gets. It's only 20 cards to begin with, and the Red Card cards get shuffled into the deck and you redraw 3 cards. You need to play Red Card on turn 1 or turn 2, preferably after they used Oak, because otherwise you're having them redraw 3 cards from a 12 card deck, and they have 2 of what they need, so they're redrawing 3 cards from essentially a 6 card deck, and fuck you if they still have another Oak to draw into.

I figured out that you can get heads almost always by grabbing the coin and shifting it slightly down and right and then gently flicking it up and to the left. it will land curved on its side and then barely have enough momentum to land on heads. Have the japs been disseminating a consistent way to land heads? I'd use it to play blastoise.

I won by bluffing once simply by saving Jynx and 2 Xspeed on hand. Some Chinese guy was running misty and rolled 7 heads on their Starmie Ex. If I have placed Jynx down they would've seen it as a threat and switched out or used Sabrina to force me to use Jynx so he could kill it. But I slapped my Garde out after my active Pokémon was killed so the next turn I could put Jynx on bench, double Xspeed retreat Gardevoir, place energy on Jynx and use Gardevoir's ability on Jynx. They conceded first before I could one shot kill their Starmie Ex with 170 dmg attack.

This is why Mewtwo is legitimately the best deck in the format. Even against your nightmare match-up, your nut draw beats there nut draw. Now that I've gotten better over the last few days, I hardly ever lose, and when I do it's always to dark decks or Eggs ex. Misty and pika can't ever beat 2 mewtwo. Fossils are so fucking good in the deck and I lol at mirror matches where my opponents play meowth, jinx, or regular mewtwo and then fail to assemble gard. They don't even realize they're losing because their building their deck incorrectly. I legitimately feel so far ahead of the population with my Mewtwo list. I was like 17-2 today. I was supposed to do work today but the servers were down for hours :) I've only felt this far ahead of the metagame in 2 other times in my TCG career. I mean it.

Mewtwo is so fucking insanely good if you play a proper list. Can play Control when needed. Aggro when needed. Also is a combo deck w nut draws. I really can't say enough good things. It'll get nerfed w 30 card decks so I gotta enjoy it while i can. I'll look for some tournaments.

I think there's basically only two real high damage decks that I've seen. Mewtwo/Gardevoir and Charizard/Moltres.

I just finished a charizard/moltres deck yesterday and it rocks, now working on mewtwo/gardevior.
