Gen 2 is a single continuity. It's literally a TIME capsule. But, again. It's a mechanic over a story device.
Again, the crime is game freak writing-in a future-proofed excuse for why they can be sloppy writers and ignore canon. The "it's an alternate universe/time-line" excuse wasn't pushed until Gen 7.
But I acknowledge your points. Black and White had different locales unique to their games. However, with the tradable keys, you could change your game. I don't know what the lore implications of that were?
