Fling doesn't set the correct values. Use Bestow specifically to give Calyrex the item to dupe after you've cleared his item in some way (I don't think it matters how, but if you're still having trouble, Thief on a completely unrelated mon is probably your best bet)
Sorry I'm not really sure how best to troubleshoot this as I'm not really sure where the point of failure is from your description aside from the initial recovery disc he's holding. It all Just Worked(TM) for me.

Sandslash trainers spend years training a single sandslash and they EV train up to a million times to hone the finest blades known to mankind.
Sandslash claws are thrice as sharp as Kalosian aegislashes and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything an aegislash can cut through, a sandslash can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a sandslash could easily bisect a Groudon with full physical defensive investment with a simple vertical slash.
Ever wonder why medieval Kalos never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their Sandslashes of destruction. Even in World War II, Unovan soldiers targeted the men with the sandslashes first because their killing power was feared and respected.
So what am I saying? Sandslashes are simply the best ground type that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in generation 9. Here is the stat block I propose for Sandslashes:

the only time I ever attempted to use it past the earlygame of any fangame/romhack was during my first and likely only full playthrough of rejuv v13.5, when trying to fight Amber and even with the crest (kinda forgot what it did lol but I remember it had to do with making normal moves water type) it was totally useless compared to literally any other fire type, and there’s no reason to use it when much better fire types can be obtained, such as Talonflame, Houndoom, Camerupt, motherfucking Blaziken, etc

Probably the easiest one yet teebeedesu. The Florges, despite having a valid attacking move under the sneed sphere, decided to stop clicking it halfway through for some reason and I was able to focus it down before a pretty easy 2v1 on the gourgeist.
Barring the free g*dlike they all get and my misgivings with how flippantly it's overused, I overall like the design of the fights here more than most of the rest of the game.

it's a 6v6 into 6v12 with a bunch of retarded shit, but really the only threat is the gourgeist and the nocturna since they both have second wind which bypasses sound sphere and gives them a +4 omniboost to everything plus evasion. that's actually not even a problem itself, except for the fact i wouldn't be able to set up sound sphere properly and they can steal off xerneas's boosts or whatever with spectral thief
also the gourgeist has the special attack immunity item and i was just too tired to think of a proper set up mon to get around it

Don't get me wrong, it's filled with absurd bullshit, extreme tedium, giant swings of RNG, and all sorts of other things but as far as any of the sekret cock and ball torture content in any of the games we've played so far goes, it clearly has both the most effort put into it as well as showing a modicum of restraint in a game that's already got some extremely unhinged design (no Furret Beam/Bidoof Beam/Qmarks nonsense in Babel). While the implementation of a lot of the specific mechanics that make it up could've been better (namely the logic for save points or determining when the key drops), I hold it in pretty high regard for both how ambitious it was and how much better it handled the big autistic gauntlet setup than the other examples in this game.
The original bosses were tough but not overbearingly unfair. I think the hardest one is the Altaria and Dugquartet because of the meme superspikes.
While I'd definitely have preferred Babel's banlist be symmetrically applied, and that Sunkern legitimately should not be a thing that can randomly happen to you 3 times in one run, I found myself
having fun more than once in there, which is way more than I can say for a lot of the rest of the postgame.
Maybe I'm coping. Maybe everything else was so disgustingly bad that this only looks good in comparison. It doesn't matter at the end of the day, as a final major milestone it ends the game on a (comparatively) high note compared to actual garbage like Hide & Seek, Prism, or Godslayer. Even thinking back and comparing it to Reborn's postgame, I had more fun with this than shit like the Gym Rematch Gauntlet or the algebra tree.
