When a character popularity gets bigger, the last thing anybody would do is removing him, its like replacing Goku with a beta wimp like Deku. Its way too much of an unnecessary risk that no businessman will never take. The smart businessesman would only agree to protagonist rotation is if Ash stays as a supporting character just in case the new protagonist fails to gain a big fanbase.
