The third island has some decent optional content, and of course there's the big iconic battle that nobody will shut the fuck up about coming up some time after that. If the incessant cutscene spam is making your experience worse, it will never get fun, and I don't remotely blame you for feeling that way. I can't even replay it myself despite enjoying the actual playing it part of the game.
