Why are these games so focused on tutorials and guides for new players?
From the Teachy TV to the Help Menu which lists all the Type Matchups, there's clearly a special focus on new players.
Professor Oak guides you through the first rival fight and the OST bonus disc even has tracks like "Guide" and "Teach Me Poke Dude!"
Why?
Out of the first five Gens, FRLG seems to spoonfeed the player the most. They even changed Charmander's level up movepool to include Metal Claw in order to make Brock easier.
My guess is because these games are supposed to be the definitive version of RBY and therefore represent the canonical "start" of the series.
