Like honestly, version 0.8 was more fun and polished than almost any recent official games, then they've decided to test some bad ideas and even when they've received feedback from me and others that it was uneeded and they should just focus on content, side quests and finishing kanto. They threw said tester's feedback into trash and kept pushing onwards, censoring and silencing anyone who disagrees with them because 'muh feelings' and because they appearently had one toxic and weirdo dev/testing member and now they assume everyone can be them or a spy or something dumb like that.
To answer OP's question, work on fangames is basically free time wasted and over years people get jaded, tired of hearing the same questions/feedback/ideas and also change and sometimes want their work to reflect this change, often resulting in sneaking in stuff like literal HRTeas to change your mon's gender for some reason, as I've seen with some degenerate devs that started off innocent.
