I'm doing it right now.

127 hours in current game time. Still haven't gotten a single gold symbol. I'm trying the Factory first because I thought it'd be easier but it's absolutely insane how many times I've lost to paralyzis, freeze, sleep, criticals and the opponent just having that one pokemon that hard counters my current team. I've made it to the gold symbol battle against Noland once and his last pokemon quick claw ice beamed my Latios when I could have won. I just lost at set 4 a few minutes ago against a Blastoise that froze my Slowking for 6 turns and hit a critical Earthquake on my Swampert before going down.

Factory is the most infuriating, at least with the Cancer Palace you still pick your own team, it's the only facility gold I have left in Emerald and Platinum, soooooooooooooo much rng...

Also use MGBA over VBA dude, VBA is a fossil, and graphically worse

yep
but it was the default save file that comes with the trashman emerald rom and i couldn't be bothered to go through the whole game again just to change the name so i kept using that save file
i only want to do the battle tower and other frontier stuff anyway
