There was a point where humanity was no different from Pokemon, and that included the ability to pick up on supernatural powers such as ESP, extreme physical prowess and reading/manipulating aura.
Then something changed that caused humans to diverge, becoming a unique species that's definitively not a Pokemon unlike 99.99% of all other lifeforms in the franchise, but humanity still has its Pokemon roots, hence those aforementioned supernatural abilities.
Humans that are raised far more closely to their primal roots seem capable of tapping into their ancestry much more feasibly, which is how we have anomalies like Koko who outright uses a Pokemon Move, something we've never seen even among the supernaturally capable.
