Apart from the obvious fact that Game Freak haven't let an anniversary year pass WITHOUT a new Gen pair release, they also always end up having to take a gap year every 10 years (delaying DP in '05, skipping '15 altogether). I wasn't sure how we'd get there, especially with ILCA fucked in the mix, be too easy for GF to contract them to shit out "Lets Go 2 Johto" for '24 but ultimately, they took '24 off, after annoucning a game for '25, to head off any sneaky bastards trying to infinge on thier target audience.
Switch was also due for release this year, but Nintendo delayed it to have a sufficient launch day stock to not sell out in all territories then spend fuckloads airmailing new stock out. And as I'm sure you're aware, Game Freak wait two years after a system launch to debut on the system
