-there is a pre release bonus called the Excursion Pass which allows you to leave lumiose and explore a little bit of kalos including the powerplants and routes to encounter more pokemon. This item can be spread via infrared
-you can customize your starters (kalos starters)
-An experimental change added. Some of your choices matter and impact the ending of the game to a certain degree. Some character's opinions of you change and are impacted by your trainer's "style"
-some megas are post game event only. Have no relation to the story
