What's a good pokemon game do i start with? What is your TOP 3 of all time?

I want to get more into Pokemon. I make uhh.. art of cute Pokemon, and want a better understanding of them.

You don't want to start with the best because then it's nothing but downhill from there.
Best order imo is:
Fire Red / Leaf green
Emerald
Platinum
Heart Gold / Soul Silver
Black / White
Black 2 / White 2
Anything before is a buggy mess with no connectivity and there's a massive dip in quality with the transition to 3D for anything after.
The side games are pretty good all around though, would definitely recommend both Snap games to an artist.

Omega Ruby was decent. It was a remake of the Hoenn games Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald.

You could start with Emerald first then. It will be more familiar for you. You already know the characters, the starter pokemon, the Gyms, the villains, the region. And that will get you used to the Gen 3 graphics and mechanics. And you can play FireRed next. But if you want something new and don't feel like playing through Hoenn again, start with FireRed.

Go from gen 1 and move upwards with each gen, picking usually the third game. Gen 1 and 2 are also compatible with Pokemon Stadium, which is fantastic and a great incentive to use the pokemon you trained. If you're willing to try romhacks, Shin Pokemon for gen 1 and Crystal Clear are also pretty decent and also connect with stadium. You can connect the save files via the submenu option for Mupen64 in retroarch.

Don't play the gen 3 remakes of Kanto though, the aesthetics and music are dogshit. So ignore fags like, >>57026564 or >>57026578

If they cry about me being a "genwunner", just remember that old pokemon is what made the series a phenomenon while the series began to die with dogshit gen 3, even though emerald is good. Gen 4 and upwards again, just pick the 3rd version. HGSS are also the only good remakes the series has had

Skipping gen 1 means he'd never understand why Pokemon became successful. They're soul incarnate, and yes - those romhacks are fine. Especially Shin Pokemon Blue since it has a post game. Way to out yourself, zoomer.

And Stadium 1/2 are apex entries and are a premier reason to play gen 1/2. Gen 3 is just ugly slop, though again - Emerald is a good game, even R/S to a degree. Just ugly and have shitty music.

But there's no reason to play FRLG because they're trash.

Gen 1 is only popular because it came first. Those games have nothing going for them aside from their progenitor status. A factor which today is nothing more than a historical curiosity.

If I were to choose a top 3 it'd be Emerald, Heartgold/Soulsilver, and Platinum. If you want some advice no one here will give you is to play through a game with a friend if you can, multiplayer is a huge part of the Pokemon experience and fighting your friends with mons you raised against theirs is super fun.

because all of that dies after gen 2 in favour of a more sterile and child friendly (in a bad way) approach that just kills what made pokémon unique in the first place
