Tried Sky like a year or two ago, didn't enjoy the gameplay though I was still in the tutorial. Might retry the series with Super since I remember watching a playthrough and enjoying the story.

I think I will next year. This game will be such an adventure. It's such a deep game. Especially for Pokémon Standards.
My Party will be the usual Vulpix and Eevee, adding Absol and Dialga. I know I will have to bench one of them because Dialga is a at fuck and uses two spaces but I will deal with that problem when I get to it.

It's an entry level classic roguelike mostly about skillful rescource management and building up your super adventurers and by far the deepest and probably toughest Pokémon game.
The art and music is really more of a bonus.

You have the IQ mechanic, the lategame collectable items that boost stats, gummis and the cafe allow you to build super strong warriors, difficult to get mons that require the friendship mask and the dungeons that reset your level to one and then at the very end that batshit insane last dungeon.
Overall, this is so much deeper than the mainline slop, it isnt even close and there is so much to discover.
I actually think the graphics are a weaker part of the game because they are super repetetive compared to the varied envoirements of Ranger, conquest and let alone other JRPGs, but the gameplay is definitively amazing and the main focus.

Shiren is a lot deeper than Pokémon Mystery Dungeon with stuff like weapons, armor, pots, the trap armband monster meat and all the monsters with unique effects, but that doesn't mean that Pokémon Mystery Dungeon isn't deep.
PMD comes with the perks of cuter characters, a story, a grind and character growth and a lot more content while still having quite deep and thoughtful gameplay.

Probably no, Shiren 1 DS has a fuck ton of content, later entries even more BUT PMD is fun, definitely not as balanced or as well thought out as any Shiren but pretty good overall.

Shirens Dungeons are a lot longer on average, but the difference isn't that big that it can make up to the sheer amount of dungeons PMD has. Zero isle alone has probably a comparable amont of combined floors to Shiren 1 DS.
Shiren is deeper but has less content.

I mean most PMD dungeons are like 10-20 floors. (Zero isle and stuff like destiny tower are the exception)
In Shiren DS1 almost all dungeons (except the story one and i think ceremonial cave) go up too 99F

Let's say these dungeons on average have 30 floors because of the extended dungeons and Zero island and destiny tower.
79 * 30 = 2 370

Shiren the Wanderer wiki says:

1 / 0,07 = 14,28571428571429
14,28571428571429 * 30 = 428 floors rounded up

So Shiren 1 DS would have a little under 1/5 as much floors total as the entirety of PMD EOS.

I don't know where this math is from but:

Table mountain + Tainted path = 99F (Table mountain has 30F has you said, Tainted path is a direct continuation since it starts at 31F)
Ceremonial Cave has 30F
Ravine of the dead has 50F
Kitchen God, Scroll cave and Final puzzle have 99F (granted Both Kitchen God and Scroll 99F versions are totally optional)

So that's 99F x 4 + 30F +50F = 476F

Regarding PMD exact numbers

Beach = 4F (+ bottom)
Bluff = 7F
Mt. Bristle = 9F (+ summit)
Waterfall = 9F
Apple = 12F (+ interior)
Coast = 9F (+ 5F from Small Path)
Mt. Horn = 14F (+ 5F form Rock Path)
Foggy = 11F (+ 5F from Forest Path)
Steam = 8F (+ 7 upper + Summit)
Amp = 10F (+ 8F interior + Summit)
Northern = 15F
Quicksand = 10 (+10 Deep + Underground Lake)
Crystal Cave = 11F

Shiren has more depth and the games can coexist because they also have different skill levels, but PMD does have more content. A lot more content.

In terms of Floors, yes absolutely
Overall I prefer Shiren since PMD is a bit too easy IMO (that doesn't mean it's not fun mind you, I had a blast 100% EoS a while back)

Also fun fact Shiren 3 has a 999F dungeon so there's that (obviously later entries have way more dungeons than DS1)

There once was an impossible meme game called Spectral tower with a 100 000 floors dungeon.
Also Fate is a PC game that has a 2 147 483 647 floor dungeon but obviously, beating the main story is far, far shorter than that. Caves of Qud techincally has the same depth.
None of those are Mystery Dungeon though.

But my personal record is probably a less impressive 75 floors deep in PMD.

PMD's story dungeons are held together like duct tape due to how broken the player's arsenal is. Sky sort of realizes this but counterbalances in stupid ways like making Sleep status completely worthless due to a good chunk of the postgame cast being immune and having close-range flinch and counter passives, which instead force the already broken ranged meta to be abused even more.
Level 1 dungeons meanwhile are actually balanced around dungeon crawler progression, although even those have their fair share of bullshit design choices like late floor Politoed Perish Song

In Shiren something similar occurs, late game monsters can pass through walls an attack twice per turn, make you lose your turn from anywhere in the same room, turn any item in your bag into weeds or just use a ranged attack from a 10 Tiles radius in the best case, worst case is a ranged attack that deals like 50 Hp + has homing properties from anywhere in the current floor, it's brutal

There are counters ofc but at first glance it's 100% bullshit, I do like overcoming those odds

I recall Shiren DS being a very unpopular remake among the Japanese playerbase due to the new Flying Penguin enemy they added that would electrify and make any item in your bag useless. Feels like there needs to be nuance to the challenges they put against the player.

Problematic enemies are the bread and butter of Shiren games, some are pretty unfair, for example, there's an enemy that can teleport you AND a few other monsters in the same floor straight to it, surrounding you and probably killing you

Despite that you learn how to deal with those enemies, you fall, you learn, you adapt, I love that ofc that's not for everyone and I still think it's pretty unfair
