it could also be that simply the experience of being trades and the emotional ramifications of that causes a Pokemon to grow, like yoj said
>It just seems to me like giving away your pokemon to someone else would make them resentful and hurt rather than give them better stats and powerI din't think it)s right to think of evolution purely as a state upgrade. that's just a gameplay mechanic, and in that case, so is trade evolution and doesn't really need an explanation. but in lore terms, evolution is just change. most Pokemon get stronger in the process, but it's just a byproduct of change. and change can be spurred by all sorts of things, including pain. people who struggle irl often come out stronger for it. pain can very much be a catalyst for growth. and sometimes you have to let go of things that are holding you back to discover your true potential.
