How's your diet? Do you get enough sleep at night? Do you have substance abuse issues? Porn addiction? Have you tried any new series or shows recently? Are you getting some form of daily exercise? Are you getting plenty of sunlight? Have you tried putting yourself out there, maybe going to places where people congregate and socialize? Are you taking care of your personal hygiene? Do you have a good relationship with any family members, and if so do you reach out to them ever?

Start with that checklist if you want to change. Add "do you know what makes you feel fulfilled?" Not physically or mentally pleased, but fulfilled. Something that makes you happy to wake up and has you earn your sleep.

He either does or he doesn't. You can give someone random attention for a couple minutes and maybe help somebody or ignore them. I don't think calling him out before he does anything is helpful. 24 is still too young to be meaningfully set in his ways.
