It's not just that their designs are hideous, but they also have no consistent design theme, fairies are just "sometimes kind of cute" as the only qualifier. Sometimes you have an actual fairy, sometimes you have a bread dog, or keys, or creepy mime pedophile, or cotton candy, or cake, or milk, or a rock.
(also almost every single fairy type that has a decent design are pre gen 6, before fairy was a thing)
