I also loved the role they played in the story; imo, they're the best execution of the “legendary that accompanies you throughout the story” concept that the Ohmori games have. They're special, but they don't just feel handed to you - you get to know and care about them as the story progresses; they're core characters of the story, without whom it just wouldn't make sense.
Honestly, SV has the best story out of all the nu-Pokémon titles. Shame it came out like it did; they could've been
even better titles.
